Marshalling for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and Cape Town Marathon

Once a year, Rotary Club of Hout Bay is very visible on the streets of Hout Bay for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the largest timed cycle race in the world. The club is also involved in the Cape Town Marathon. Members of the club, along with community volunteers coordinated by the Hout Bay-based NGO Sakhisizwe Youth Development Programme (we call them our Imizamo Yethu Heroes) marshal along the route of both races to keep the athletes and community safe and raise funding to support our club Youth Programmes.

The Club790 brand was established 20 years ago with the help of Rotary members and is a trusted household brand in Hout Bay. It was relaunched in 2014 by AB Promotions as a business directory and has been hugely successful. Due to Covid-19 the printed issue was converted digitally to a useful, interactive App and online directory. The convenience of interacting via the App has attributed to its appeal. Club790 donated over R600 000,00 to the Rotary Club of Hout Bay between 2015 and 2019 for use on local community projects. As the App grows, Club790 will continue to donate to Rotary.

Club790’s primary objective is to stimulate local business and provide useful information to all residents, visitors, tourists and businesses in and around Hout Bay. A comprehensive, colourful business directory App for Hout Bay & Surrounding areas including restaurants, retail outlets, accommodation, businesses, medical and emergency contacts and more. Users can link directly to contact details, Facebook pages, websites, Google maps and share listings on social media as well as add listings to ‘favourites’. Users are also able to Rate, Review and Recommend their experiences.

Donations from “Friends of Rotary” and other fundraising

We continue to look for ways to close the gaps in funding our community programmes. We owe much gratitude to private sponsors and friends of Hout Bay Rotary who have assisted with funding. To complement these donations, our club carries out fundraising initiatives such as the theatre show starring two Rotarians that took place on 5-7 March 2026, and our always amazing and fun annual end-of-year club members and partners festive party involving fantastic raffle prizes and an exciting auction of valuable gifts.
